Rubberband Racing Title Theme

Rubberband Racing now has a title theme!

You can listen to it below!

This is the second track I’ve written as Max Did It. In contrast to the first one, the title theme of Satellite, this one is an upbeat rock track emphasizing the fast and fun nature of the game.

Another important difference is that I’ve used actual, analog guitars to record this song while the Satellite theme consists entirely of synthesizers edited in LMMS. The exception are the drums which have not been recorded live, a fact my neighbours are probably quite thankful for.

E-Guitar and E-Bass

My weapons of choice.

The most troublesome part of creating this song was recording the guitars. I have used an audio interface by M-Audio to feed the signal from the instruments into my computer. The advantages of this are lower latency and better audio quality.

The problem in my case was that the PCI card had lived in my storage room for a while and it seems that that resulted in some loose contacts.

Using the device meant that it either worked like a charm or caused Windows to hard freeze, requiring me to nudge the card into a hopefully better position on the mainboard and rebooting my computer until it worked again. Which means that at some point, the other half of my “recording studio” looked like this:

Open PC Case

Okay, it works! Nobody move!

But after all that I’m quite happy with the result.

I used a little software called Guitar FX Box to put effects on the guitar. This application provides decent results for it’s price segment and I like the sound I got.

I mixed the song and added effects in Audacity. The VST plugin T-Sledge was very helpful in making the sound heavier. The compressors that come with Audacity didn’t really provide the results I was looking for.
