Satellite Title Theme

This is the title theme to my upcoming Flash game, Satellite.

Find it after the break.

It’s been a long time since the last time I wrote a full song, and I was very happy I had the opportunity to do so once again. This also marks the first post in the audio category after most posts on this blog have been about coding so far.

This theme is the first song where I only used a keyboard to find the melody I wanted. I usually write songs with my guitar, since I have been playing that instrument for much longer. I’m still very much a beginner when it comes to black and white keys, but it was sufficient for this little song.

I find it interesting how the choice of instrument influences the way you write a song. I think the theme tune would sound signifcantly different had I written it for the guitar.

One inspiration for this track were the better known songs by Jean Michel Jarre, although it took a little different route during development. Not to mention that it will take a while before my songs can actually compare themselves to classics like Oxgene IV.

I used LMMS to produce the song. Even though LMMS doesn’t have the features and the usability that software like Reason or Cubase offers, it does come with all the essential things like a respectable preset library, tracker and effects. The big advantage of LMMS is that it is open source and available for free while Steinberg and Propellerhead charge a couple of hundred, if not thousands of bucks for their products.

Nice work. Reminds me of early 1980's electronica ^^

Thanks :-) I'm glad that you had that association. I actually drew my inspiration for this track from that genre.
